I wanted a little more weight for my cardboard spools and didn't feel like doing the ball bearing method. I found Shadowcat's model and it does work great. Since I keep my spools in a dryer as I'm printing, I didn't really want to use AA batteries though (just in case).

I ended up having a pack of stick-on wheel weights from Harbor Freight from another project and decided to use those instead. The "new" internal body was carved out to fit approximately 12 - 1/2oz weights before screwing on the cap. The wheel weights take the print from 52g up to 250g (approximately 50g more than the AA batteries and less of a chemical/thermal concern).

Wheel weights used: Harbor Freight 1/2oz Wheel Weights

FYI: the wheel weights are zinc, not lead.
