Designed to be a direct replacement of the front seat mounts and simple add on to the rear seat bar. No additional hardware or modifications needed. This will raise the seat about 1-7/8". This gave me plenty of additional room under the seat for storing taller items. I also found peddling the drive system to be noticeably more comfortable. Not the intent of this design but a very welcomed addition.
Printing - This is how I printed my parts and I have been impressed with the results. Use this as a good place to start but always experiment with additional materials and printer settings.
Material - My final parts were printed in PA6-GF. ASA would also likely be a good choice. I printed an early prototype set in a 98A TPU and got surprisingly good results. My suggestion would be a nylon for more permanent parts.
Perimeters - The idea is for the shell to be thick enough that the walls make solid contact from the through-hole through to the base of this part. This will improve the load transfer from the seat down to the surface of the kayak. See attached picture from PrusaSlicer.
With a 0.6mm nozzle, I suggest 9 perimeters. *shown attached picture
With a 0.4mm nozzle, I suggest 13 perimeters.
Top & bottom layers - I prefer to set these to at least 2mm (count depends on layer height you choose). Again, this helps with the load transfer though the part.
Infill - Very little is needed. Maybe 10% is plenty.
Installation
Remove seat from kayak.
Remove front mounts from seat.
Pop the circular caps off the outside surface of the plastic mounts.
Untie or cut one end of elastic cord.
Remove thumbscrews from front mounts. Will reuse in new risers.
I found that holding the retaining washer with needle-nose pliers then turning the thumbscrew worked quite well.
Install thumbscrews and retaining washers in new risers just as they were installed on the original mounts.
Press or even slightly hammer new seat risers onto bar ends. These are intentionally tight so that they do not unintentionally fall off during use or transportation.
Reinstall seat in kayak.
New risers have a feature on the bottom that keeps the risers centered in the tracks. Some adjusting of risers on the seat bars will be needed to make sure the centering feature sets nicely in the tracks.
Set 3 - Catch big fish!
