For storing a harddisk with a lot of historical data, the original packaging falling apart, I created this strongbox.
It was designed with padding-foam in mind!. I don't have access to fancy filaments that foam up when printing, so I just designed around 10mm foam. (Not realising the foam I had was either 7 or 16mm ...)
But with some shaving of the foam, it fits nicely.
Funny enough I'm most proud of the cable retainer. It's a very simple thing, just an L shape that's pushed into a slot. With much care and force, I might have to add! The retainers have 0.2 clearance either direction, if this is too precise for your printer, then rescale them down a touch. I wouldn't dream of printing this on my Ender3, but the XL is pretty dialed in. Still had to carefully put a large portion of my body weight on it to get it to slide in.
Inspiration attribution; Strongbox created with my own recreation of a strongbox model I found online, and later found a parametric version of said box. This project was created in Fusion 360 and at the time, I did not have access to it. So I recreated it in FreeCAD. My FreeCAD project is no longer listed as the original parametric files are easier to work with once you have Fusion running.
