This is a sliding scale mood meter with 5 emotive faces on it. There are intentionally no labels for the faces, allowing people to apply their own definition to suit their needs. It could be mood: Dead, Sad/Sleepy, "Meh", Happy, or Silly/Extra Happy. It could also express energy levels: Zero Energy, Not Much, Just Okay, Ample Energy, or Too Much (loosely based around this Energy Needs meter), or something else that helps someone communicate more readily.
I've found that sometimes, my own child doesn't have the regulation to point to a paper meter and put their feelings/energy to the words on the page. This gives them an opportunity to wordlessly express themselves and the ratcheting slide makes it feel more like a toy and less like a chore.
There is a loop for a key ring that you can then attach to backpacks or bags, and ample space on the back to use double-sided tape for wall-mounting.
This is set up as a multi-color print, but modifications can be made to instead raise the mood faces up from the plate and print the main body with supports for the pocket.
Notes on Colors
Avoid using Green for the 4th and 5th faces, or using Red for 1st and 2nd faces. We want to avoid ascribing "good" or "bad" to feelings. Sadness or anger can be a justified feeling if you see a friend get hurt, so it's not necessarily bad. Especially with younger kids, this can help them develop a healthier relationship with their emotions and be more willing to communicate them without feeling like they'll be in trouble for feeling upset.
Print Settings
There isn't much special going on with these files. Most print settings should work, though it was designed for 0.2mm layer height. All parts can be printed without supports. Main body may need supports in the slider pocket if you print it face up for a material/color change that way.
I would recommend the Slider part be printed in PETG as it will be flexing often as it slides across, and should be printed flat for the flexing part of it.
Purchase
If you are unable to print this model, I also have it for sale in my Etsy store. Proceeds of which go toward providing these as a tool for therapists and educators.
