When I replaced my ERCF v3 MMU with the BoxTurtle, I realised the BoxTurtle was missing an encoder, which gives excellent clog detection and enables me to intervene and save a print when I get a toolhead clog. Without the encoder the printer would continue printing air resulting in failed prints. So I took the encoder which had worked well for me on the ERCF and merged it with the BoxTurtle Hub.

This is working well on my BoxTurtle. You don't need to reprint the top part of the encoder if you already have one from an ERCFv3, but I have included a neater top part here with the tab removed as it is not needed in this combination.

NOTE: This uses the hardware from the improved v27B encoder from the ERCFv3. If you have an ERCFv2 or one of the other encoder options on the v3, and should print both the parts provided here. You will need a standard 625-2RS Bearing for this version of the encoder.

Assembly Notes

You need to fit the hub to the BoxTurtle back panel before assembling the encoder, or it does not fit through the hole in the panel. You need to install 2 threaded inserts to the hub encoder combination part in the same positions as the original ERCFv3 encoder (see p.119 of the ERCF v3 manual).

The encoder top part and hardware then just plug onto the hub and are secured with the 2 screws from the original encoder. Note the ECAS-04 used in the encoder exit should have the rubber seal left in place. The 4 ECAS-04 in the Hub inlets are fitted WITHOUT the rubber seals, as per the BoxTurtle assembly instructions.
