🐾 Siberian Husky

The Siberian Husky is a medium-sized, athletic working dog that originated in northeastern Siberia, where it was developed by the Chukchi people. It was bred to pull light loads over long distances in harsh, freezing conditions, combining endurance, speed, and efficiency.

Siberian Huskies became famous in Alaska in the early twentieth century as sled dogs. Today, they are admired for their striking looks, friendly nature, and boundless energy.

🐶 Appearance & Personality

Coat: A thick, medium-length double coat with a soft, dense undercoat that protects against extreme cold. All colours from black to pure white are allowed, often with striking facial masks.
Build: Compact, well-balanced, and moderately built, with a smooth, effortless gait designed for stamina rather than bulk.
Expression: Keen, friendly, and interested, often with a hint of mischief.
Face: Almond-shaped eyes that may be brown, blue, or one of each, set beneath erect, triangular ears.
Tail: A well-furred, fox-like brush carried in a graceful sickle curve when the dog is alert.
Temperament: Huskies are gentle, outgoing, and sociable, and they are rarely suspicious of strangers. They are independent thinkers with a strong prey drive and a famous love of howling and talking.

🎾 Activity & Companionship

Siberian Huskies need plenty of vigorous daily exercise to stay happy, calm, and well-behaved.

They love running, hiking, skijoring, and pulling sleds or carts, especially in cooler weather.

Their friendly, pack-oriented nature makes them affectionate family dogs that usually enjoy the company of other dogs.

Training requires patience and consistency, as Huskies are clever but independent, and they are best kept on a leash or in a securely fenced area.

💪 Health & Care

Exercise: High — long daily runs, hikes, or active play are essential.
Coat care: Weekly brushing, increasing to daily brushing during the heavy seasonal shedding known as blowing coat.
Diet: A high-quality, balanced diet suited to an active working dog.
Health: Typically lives 12–14 years. Common concerns include hip dysplasia, juvenile cataracts, progressive retinal atrophy, and corneal dystrophy. Regular veterinary care helps keep Siberian Huskies healthy and active.
