Parametric LED Profile Clip
A customizable LED profile clip designed in OpenSCAD. The rounded gripping ledges snap over the sides of a compatible aluminum LED profile, helping hold it securely in place. Adjust the parameters to suit your profile and printer.
The clip can be printed open-ended or with an optional end cap. When the end cap is enabled, you can also add a rounded cable slot. An optional screw hole with a head recess can be added through the backing for mounting.
The included STL files are sized for a 17 × 7 mm LED profile and are 50 mm long.
Print flat, no supports are needed.
Parameter overview
General dimensions
Inner width (mm): The inside width of the clip. Set this to the outside width of your LED profile, plus a small clearance for fit. For example, you could start with 0.2 mm extra and adjust based on your printer and the desired fit.
Inner height (mm): The inside height of the clip. Set this to the outside height of your profile, plus a small clearance.
Length (mm): The length of the clip along the profile.
Shell thickness (mm): The thickness of the side walls. The gripping ledge radius must not exceed this value.
Shell backing thickness (mm): The thickness of the back of the clip. In my experience, a backing thinner than 2 mm can cause printing issues.
Gripping ledges
Gripping ledge radius (mm): The radius of the rounded rails that grip the profile. The two ledges must fit within the clip’s inner width.
Ledge top offset (mm): Moves both ledges up or down relative to the open underside of the clip. Adjust this to match where you want the ledges to contact your profile.
End cap
End cap enabled: Closes the +Z end of the clip.
End cap thickness (mm): Sets the thickness of the closed end.
Cable slot The cable slot is cut through the end cap, so it is available only when both the end cap and cable-hole options are enabled.
Cable hole enabled: Turns the slot on or off.
Cable hole width (mm): Slot width.
Cable hole height (mm): Slot height.
Cable hole corner radius (mm): Rounds the slot’s corners.
Screw settings
Screw hole enabled: Adds a mounting hole through the backing and a recess for the screw head.
Screw diameter (mm): Diameter of the screw shaft hole.
Screw head diameter (mm): Diameter of the screw head recess.
Screw head height (mm): Depth of the screw head recess.
