Hello everyone!
This is a Bionicle Metru style head piece that has been optimized for 3D printing. I wanted a CAD model of a Metru head piece to mess around with, so I used this mesh I found online uploaded by thall72 as a reference to work off of and took my own measurements to try and make a CAD version of this part that was as close as possible to the original. After I had the part completely modeled, I figured it would be a good idea to make a version optimized for 3D printing, so I did that too. I'm pretty pleased with how they both turned out!
Part Information
There are two versions of this part on the downloads page: the first is a completely stock version, which aims to recreate the original as accurately as possible, while the second is a modified version of the head which adds two flats to the back of the head to make it more 3D printing friendly.
Printing Information
Due to the size and level of detail, I recommend printing this part at a more fine resolution than you might normally print at. I toleranced all of the connection fittings around printing this part at 0.12mm layer height, but I did also test it at a 0.2mm layer height, and the connections were still serviceable. This part will require support material, and I recommend the print orientation below for the best bed adhesion and surface results. Tree style supports are recommended.
Sendoff
This model is not an exact copy of a Bionicle Metru Head, but hopefully it is a close enough imitation for those who are interested. I had tons of fun working on this project, and I hope everyone else enjoys it as much as I have!
A huge thank you to thall72 for uploading their Lego Compatible (47312.dat) Bionicle Compatible Head Connector Block (Toa Metru) mesh! Being able to use it as reference was very helpful for making my version of the head in CAD.
