BROS CNC Dust Extraction System
A modular, 3D-printable dust extraction system designed and developed by BROS for a LowRider V4 CNC router, installed inside a Renault Trafic van. The system was developed to provide efficient dust collection while allowing the CNC router to move freely within a very limited workspace.
SYSTEM OVERVIEW
The design features a rotating hose support arm, custom mounting components, hose connectors, adapters and a dust shoe assembly. The rotating mechanism uses a bearing to allow smooth movement of the extraction hose as the CNC router travels along its axes. The system helps keep the hose supported, reduces interference with machine movement and provides effective dust extraction directly at the cutting tool.
3D PRINTING
All included components were designed in Fusion 360 and tested on the actual CNC installation. Material used: Fiberon PET-CF17 (carbon-fiber-reinforced PET)
Tested printing settings:
Layer height: 0.20 mm
Nozzle temperature: 285°C
Bed temperature: 80°C
The parts were developed with a focus on functional strength, dimensional accuracy and reliable FDM printing.
BEARING & ASSEMBLY HARDWARE
Rotary bearing
The rotating hose support arm uses an oversized bearing with the following dimensions:
Inner diameter: 75 mm
Outer diameter: 113 mm (to be verified)
Width: 41.3 mm
The bearing was purchased on Amazon.
The bearing is intentionally oversized to provide enough space for the central airflow channel while maintaining a strong and stable rotating support for the hose arm. The inner ring remains fixed, while the outer ring rotates together with the arm, allowing smooth movement of the dust extraction hose.
Screws & Fasteners
The assembly uses M6 socket head cap screws (ISO 4762) in three lengths:
M6 × 20 mm
M6 × 30 mm
M6 × 50 mm
Washers are recommended where needed to distribute the clamping force.
No nuts or threaded inserts were used. The screws were carefully heated with a small handheld torch and threaded directly into the 3D-printed parts, forming their own threads in the plastic. This method was used for my prototype assembly. Avoid overheating the screws or surrounding plastic, and check the strength of each connection before use.
INCLUDED FILES
The download contains STL files for the custom-designed components of the dust extraction system, including the rotating hose support mechanism, mounting parts, connectors and adapters. The files are provided as individual components to allow printing and replacement as needed.
COMPATIBILITY
Originally developed for the V1 Engineering LowRider V4 CNC router. The system was designed for a custom installation, so some components may require adaptation to different CNC configurations, spindle mounts, vacuum hoses or available workspace.
ABOUT BROS
BROS develops modular systems, functional 3D-printed components and custom manufacturing solutions. This dust extraction system is part of our CNC-in-a-van project, where a fully functional CNC router operates inside a Renault Trafic. All included 3D models are original BROS designs.
Designed by BROS. Built for real-world use.
