Introduction
I’m sharing a travel version of the well-known skill game, Crokinole. The objective is to flick discs toward the center of the board while trying to ensure your opponent scores fewer points.
It’s worth noting that this version does not follow the original dimensions; the standard size is far too large to fit into this box. I have kept the original proportions as much as possible, though I’ve made a few adjustments to improve the overall gameplay experience.
After extensive testing and several rounds of play, I arrived at this design—easy to transport and quick to set up—so you can enjoy a game of Crokinole anywhere.
Instruccions
Objective and Scoring
The game ends when a player or team reaches an agreed-upon score (typically 100 points). Points are calculated at the end of each round based on the final positions of the discs:
• Central hole: If a disc enters the central hole completely, it is immediately removed and counts as 20 points.
• Inner zone: 15 points.
• Middle zone: 10 points.
• Outer zone: 5 points.
• Dividing lines: If a disc touches a line separating two zones, the score for the lower-value zone is awarded.
• Net score: At the end of the round, the points from both sides are subtracted. For example, if you score 50 points and your opponent scores 35, you are awarded 15 points toward the overall total, while your opponent receives 0.
The Turn
• Positioning: Discs are launched by sliding them with a finger (a "flick") from the outer line of the player's quadrant.
• Stability: Neither the board nor the chair may be moved during a turn. The "three-quarters of a buttock" rule dictates that a player must keep their backside firmly on the chair while making a shot.
Impact Rules
The game's strategy shifts entirely depending on whether there are any opponent's discs on the board:
• If there are NO opponent's discs on the board (Free Shot): You must land your disc within or touching the inner zone (the 15-point area) or get it into the central hole (20 points). If you fail to do so, the disc is immediately removed from the board and placed in the gutter (0 points). • If there ARE opponent’s discs on the board (Attack Shot): Your disc must make contact with at least one of the opponent’s discs (either directly or by rebounding off one of your own discs). If it fails to touch any enemy disc, the disc you launched—along with any of your other discs that moved during that shot—is removed to the pit.
Discs out of play
• Any disc that touches the outer boundary line of the board (the line separating the playing area from the pit) is considered out of play and is removed to the pit.
• If a disc strikes the central pegs and rebounds back into the playing area, it remains in play, provided it has not crossed the outer boundary line.
