These coasters are multicolor prints. All required parts are contained in the 3mf file.

They are printed with one translucent and one opaque material. There is a cover-layer with the translucent material over the tinted graphics layer. This seals the color layer and creates a smooth surface especially when using ironing for the top layers.

Printing/Slicing Parameters

The models are optimised for 0.4 mm nozzle and 0.2 mm layer height.

It is worth the additional printing time to switch on “Ironing” for the top layers in PrusaSlicer. You can see the what difference it makes in the picture above. The “Splash” coaster is printed with ironing the others not.

Enabling Multicolor Printing

Here are a few tips on printing multicolor in PrusaSlicer. Remember you can do this with any printer as long as you switch materials manually.

For multicolor printing to become available in PrusaSlicer you have to have at least 2 extruders configured on the “Printer Settings” page and depending on your setup “Single Extruder Multi Material” selected.

If your firmware does understand “Tn” style tool-change commands your all set. Otherwise you can configure custom G-Code to be inserted when a tool/material-change is required in the “Printer Settings” under “Custom G-Code / Tool change G-code”

How you facilitate the material switch during printing will depend on your firmware, basically you have to be in some defined “pause state” to change materials and then continue printing.

Importing the model in PrusaSlicer

After importing the model PS might show a dialog asking whether you want to convert to “Inches”. Select “NO”.

Then a dialog “Multi-part object detected” will ask you if you want to import the model as a single object with multiple parts. Select “YES”.

Now we have to tell slicer with which material/extruder each subpart should be printed so that it can insert insert a tool/material-change into the exported GCODE.

To do this “right click” each part in the list and select “Change Extruder”. You can select multiple parts at the same time as well.

All parts that should be printed with color have the prefix “color-” the rest should be printed translucent.

After your done and have sliced the part your screen should look something like this on layer no. 3 or 0.6mm z-height:

Happy Printing!
