Echidna - Adjustable 58mm Coffee Distribution Tool

A height adjustable 58mm coffee distribution tool. Place on a portafilter filled with coffee grinds, then spin to evenly distribute before tamping.

Features

• 88 prong placement options for customisable coffee de-clumping and distribution.
• Height adjustable. Use the locking ring to ensure that the prongs fit against the bottom of your portafilter basket (useful for those using filter papers)!
• Four piece design requires no special assembly instructions, just screw/click together.
• Knurling for better grip while adjusting height.

Printing

Critical settings

• Print Retainer with stumps facing upward.
• Print Base with threads facing upward.
• Print Bottom with threads facing downward.
• Print Ring flat, facing any direction.
• Ensure your printer is well calibrated. If holes print too small, check that your first player isn't being squished. Also consider using Horizontal Expansion (Cura) or XY Size Compensation (Prusa Slicer).

For best surface finish

• A layer height of 0.2mm (pictured) or lower. Lower layer heights may impact strength.
• Set z-seam to align in one direction (i.e. ‘back’ relative to the model). The seam will then show as one straight seam line instead of it appearing in multiple spots around each model.

Other tested settings

• 50% infill tested. Lower settings may work, but will impact rigidity.
• No supports required if sliced in the correct orientation.

Assembly

1. Screw the Ring onto the Base. Do not tighten.
2. Screw threaded side of the Bottom onto the Base to your desired height (this can be changed later).
3. Adjust the Ring to fit against the Base snugly. This allows you to lock the Base at your desired height.
4. Add dulled prongs from the top of the Base in your desired configuration. See images for suggested 11 prong 
5. Add the Retainer, aligning the stumps with the holes in the Base. Carefully bend the prong handles to fit through the elongated holes. The Retainer should click into the Base if the print tolerances are accurate.

Sourcing prongs

• The prongs pictured are 0.4mm 3D printer nozzle cleaning needles that have been manually dulled with a whetstone. These can be found on Amazon and other wholesaler websites.

The pictured Echidna distributor was printed on a modified Voxelab Aquila running Klipper. Filament is Polyalchemy Elixir PLA Silk in Royal Ruby.
