Updates:
- The bottom piece was recreated to have a cut out and to have a reinforced rim (thicker). The cut out allows for the use of non Velcro style command strips. You can align the pull tab part of the command strip to be in the cutout, so you can pull it and remove the unit from the car.
- Small Cap has been lengthened to cover the rim down to the body.
- 4/7/2023 - Added Car Adapter STL. This piece can be printed out and affixed to a surface with a tape/adhesion method of your choice. This fits perfectly inside the hold in the back plate and up against the rim for a tight fit. To remove, turn the back piece clock wise and it will disengage and pull off. To put it back on, reverse process.
The “Carbage” Can
This creation was made out of the shear frustration of having a garbage bag tied around the gear shift of my car.
Using Tinkercad I designed this unit to affix to the passenger side of your center console and give decent space to handle your daily drive needs, meaning tissues, napkins, gum wrappers (and gum, lets be serious), etc. Note, this is not for chicken bones… that's nasty. Throw those away at your next stop. :D
Production notes:
- Printing Notes:
- Print these with higher infill than you would normally as they need to be rigid.
- Supports are necessary for the bottom piece due to the opening for the garbage.
- TPU Pieces: The white pieces seen the in the picture are printed in TPU (reflected in file name) to allow for more comfort if leaning against them as well as giving some friction in keeping the bag held in place. There are two different version of this depending on taste and way the unit would fit against your center console.
- Magnets: There are round holes built to hold magnets, which hold the two halves together. The magnets keep it together, but allow it to easily be removed as well to change the bag. The magnets I used were 1 Inch (25mm) Magnets similar to these:
- How to Affix it to your car: This really comes down to personal preference, but I chose to use Command Strips found at the link below. Since they are the Velcro type, you can remove the unit whenever you want and put it back on easily, and remove the command strips from your car all together with no mark.
I already have some ideas on how to improve upon this and will post them as I come up with them. My goal is to integrate them with the base parts, but also build add ons you can just install on existing prints.
If you have any ideas on how to improve this, please let me know. All constructive feedback is welcome! If you build it, please post pictures!
