I was searching for an easy and silent door closing mechanism to save some energy during the winter time. My cats dislike the sound of the models run by rope and a weight so I tried to find an alternative solution.

Have two of these closing my doors in the Kitchen and Living Room and they work nice … so I wanted to share it with you.

You might need to adjust the 3D-Model for your door if one of the 3 provided baseplates did not work for your environment / setting.

I prefer the reversible baseplate wich is fixed only by magnets to the door so I can easily remove the automatic door closer for the summer season.

To fix the wheel to the lever I just use an old nail/screw.

I purchased a set of strong rubber bands and depending on the door I used 1-3 of them to have enough power to get the door closed after opening it.

Printed with standard settings in PLA - only the base plate should get some stronger infill to keep the rubber band fixed.

It's not really an invisible-ish door closer - so I hope you will iterate the idea and came up with some more decent stuff ;-)

I used the following parts which you can find here or somewhere else …. just to give you a reference on “rubber bands” and “magnets” ;-)
