The NiteCore D4 digicharger can't recharge NCells properly because the minimum contact position is like 0.5mm too short, and the batteries drop down too low and fall below the bumps and it is a very dodgy connection that needs some aluminum foil shims to charge them, this adapter lifts the NCell batteries up higher so that they are centered on the bumps, and keeps them stable without letting them fall down and break contact, and this allows them to reliably recharge so you can keep on saving money and not resort to using disposable alkaline cells in your compact portable devices that require these special size cells
