Replacement case for Pocket size driver bit case V2 by Riffnshred that actually screws.

This part is meant to be printed instead of Std_casing_V2.stl from the original model. It adds only 16 mm to the total length and an entirely new functionality (I'll use mine to carry with me on all trips and in my work backpack).

Fitment

As there are many different bits manufacturers with different tolerances same hex hole for all of them would not work (talking from experience).

Friction fit

There is a FitTester model included that you can print in ~30 minutes and try out different fittings to best match your hex bits before printing the final casing and wasting material.

The hex hole radius changes from 3.69 mm to 3.75 mm and is slightly tapered so the bit should require some force to put in but should be easy to take out (and wouldn't fall out).

Sizes:

  • Tight – 3.69 mm radius, 0.05° taper
  • Standard – 3.71 mm radius, 0.1° taper
  • Loose – 3.75 mm radius, 0.15° taper
Magnet fit (NEW)

Hex bit hole has over 6 mm in the inner diameter. This makes it perfect to fit a 6 mm magnet inside. There are two versions with a magnet slot to have it glued in after printing.

It uses the Loose fit hex hole to accommodate most bits (as the bit should be held in place by magnet no friction is needed).

Magnet slot:

  • diameter: 6.3 mm
  • depth: 2 mm or 3 mm (two versions included)

Printing

Print instead of Std_casing_V2.stl from original model.

I would suggest printing casing from PLA (as well as the drawer parts) and only use PETG for bitclip (for flexibility) and cap (for colour accent).

Prints well with 0.15 mm layer height for detailed look as well as precise fitment, infill 10%-20% as there is not much of it and with infill modifiers (see Modifiers section) not in crucial parts.

Use brim of ~ 1 cm to make sure the print does not fall over, especially when pushing in the drawer guide on pause (see Modifiers section). Alternatively add supports on the widest tapered bottom part instead of brim, but print itself shouldn't require supports on it's own.

Modifiers

To reinforce the hex bit part and shaft either print entire model at 100% infill or add modifiers for 100% infill at:

  • layers 0-23.5 mm from bed (covering tapered bottom part)
  • entire height, 15 mm x 15 mm centered cylinder (covering shaft)

As per the original instructions, add pause at layer ~ 87.5 mm to insert the drawer guide.

There are also .3mf and .gcode files with added modifiers for 100% infill and pause to insert the drawer guide.
