- Update 24 Feb: Made the anchor screw holes a little tighter by default (fiddle with DERIV_nutWidthTolerance if you need to for your printer) and made them deeper so as to be easier to use with a wider variety of screw sizes.
Hi! Hello! This is a 3D model.
I know, you're shocked. But that's okay, I'm here to help. This here is the DeskMountEd Parametric Desk Organization…thing. It's not quite a “system”, at least not yet, maybe you'll help make it one.
But what is it? DeskMountEd is a parametric way (seriously, there's a ton of them, check the photos) to batch out many end-to-end hangers for stuff that should…hang. Under a desk, probably. Hence the name. You can modify item width, item depth, the size of the front/back stops that keep things from sliding out, the thickness of the holder bars, all that stuff. But it also has a couple of other neat features. There are two main variants of the model, with cable stays (by default, fitted for an XLR cable, but you can change that! Be brave!) and without (you'll see STLs with “CS” in the name, that means “with cable stays”). Both of these variants can have horizontal holders, vertical holders, or (wait for it) both horizontal and vertical holders. On the horizontal axis you've got slots for captive nuts (M3, but--yeah, you can change that too) spaced every 20mm (and you could change this but I suggest that you do not, for the most part?) and on the vertical axis you have one, centered on either upright.
This is the world's most overkill way to make a headphone hanger and I do not apologize.
Since I don't know what you need to hang, the STLs on here are a little limited. They're for stuff I needed to get done, not necessarily you. So you're going to want to download the f3d files and import them. Everything beginning with INPUT_ is there for your parametric fiddling, and changing most things won't break the universe (but no guarantees). In particular, you'll probably want to grab some calipers and measure values for INPUT_itemWidth and INPUT_itemDepth. If your thing is more or less rectangular, you will want to change INPUT_lipHorizontal and maybe INPUT_lipVertical (but that defaults to being the same thing) to have stronger nubbins what for keeping your things from sliding all about.
Once you're done, print it. I use PLA. PETG probably works. Wall count? Some. Infill? Some. This is not a challenging print, though the clearance holes for anchor screws might need a bit of oomph to poke a screw through the first time. You'll figure it out, I promise.
The holes for your desk are designed around a #6 or #8 wood screw, because I am an American in all ways except I have a lot of metric machine screws. A #6 screw is like an M3.5 but not, and a #8 screw is like an M4 but not. An M3 wood screw/sheet metal screw (do you even call coarse threaded, pointy-tipped screws with flush heads “sheet metal screws” in that weird land of The Rest Of The World?) is probably best, but I have no idea how your metric woodfoolery works, somebody tell me in the comments what's good. This isn't rocket science, you can figure this out. One note, though: if you go bigger than a #6, you might have some trouble getting a screwdriver through the holes in the cable stays.
Now that it's mounted, maybe hang some things off your hanger. I made this neat headphone hook, for example. It is holding my Sony MDR-7506's, which I love so very very much, right now. Do thou likewise!
Once you've made something you're happy with, remix it! Post your STLs for the things hanging under your desk for those sweet sweet Prusameters! Make holder gizmos! Use the tag deskmountedsystem here on Printables so people can find your stuff and help somebody else out along the way. Hit me up on Twitter or on Mastodon because I'd love to see what you're up to.
