I needed a way to mount a camera overhead so I could get a bird's eye view of my desk for making assembly videos. I don't have a great setup or much in the way of camera equipment. I typically use my phone or HD webcam to shoot videos and this setup ended up working out pretty well.
I designed the ceiling clip assembly and camera mounting plate in Fusion 360 and 3D printed the parts.
The camera mount I'm using was found on Amazon a couple of years ago and is currently unavailable (https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B098WGQTJX). However, there are some other mounts that look identical (or nearly so) that are offered as alternatives if you follow my link.
I used standard metric socket head screws and metric heat inserts (M3 and M4 sizes) from a couple of assortment kits that are easily found on Amazon as well.
My Fusion 360 source file along with STEP files are included to make editing and remixing easier. I also included a set of “light duty” clips that are bit less bulky and can be held together without using heat inserts. Those also have path cut so you can use thread of lightweight string to hang other items from your ceiling.
I also made an installation video to show how it all went together. Check it out and if you like it, I'd appreciate a thumbs up!
