I designed this button box to add a bunch more inputs to my space sim setup. It's semi-modular and based on one of my other button panel designs. With this configuration, it will hold 18 cherry mx style keys.
I've stumbled through the Arduino implementation of this. Took a bit but I've now got it recognizing all 18 buttons in a matrix wiring structure with diodes. Because of the way this is wired, each of the three sections is actually one single array.
Adafruit recently released a set of relegendable keycaps (https://www.adafruit.com/product/5039) that perfectly fit my needs.
