The universal remote never quite caught on in our house. Over the years we have always had a remote for the TV and for the cable box at a minimum. Universal remotes always resulted in a compromise or a “programming” nightmare. These days we stream over the internet using our AppleTV box.
This stand was one of my first designs in openSCAD nearly 6 years ago. It's pretty basic, but we can always find the remotes, and the Apple TV remote is both small and thin and pretty easy to misplace.
Most of my _______holder designs have evolved to have rounded corners and edges, and I usually make them custom for a particular need.
I have given up making stands for things like smartphones and business cards, they change geometry too much to keep making a new one. Past phone stands have used a similar design, including adding sound ports to make the sound more directional and somewhat louder. They have been since relegated to a stand in my maker space to hold my Mac Time Machine disk and cable, and the other one a multiport adapter and sticky notes.
I have included the openSCAD file which is appropriately commented so you can customize this utilitarian item for your own use.
