what it is and what never should be

Yes im sorry for the terrible led zeppelin pun, anyway.. above (or below) you see my design for 3D printed Knobs (or clamping screws). They come in 2 Sizes (M6 and M8)

Theyre designed to use for clamping an allthread (or screw) which is locked against rotation. the Knobs are designed in a way that there could fit around 20mm of thread inside of them. The whole thing requires extra nuts which are pulled into the parts after printing (i've designed them to be a very slight press fit) after the screws are insertet you can press on the cap which will hold the nut in place (and make the thing look nice).

Ive desinged the caps to be slighlty pressfit too (use a bench vice - works out really good for me).

Also i designed 2 Versions of caps (or plugs like there called in the file names)

  • normal Version
  • Easy print version

in the normal version the upper top of the plug follows the curve of the button.. it looks quiet good but is difficult to print because there is no major flat surface to use as bottom. (actually its terrible and in my opinion not worth the trouble for most applications)

the easy version has an flat upper top which makes it way more easier to print and it don't look that bad either.

Measurements

  • height: ~29mm
  • diameter:: ~50mm
  • max. lenght of thread inside*: 26.5mm
  • min. lenght of thread inside**: ~10.5mm

(*) max lenght if thrad before it pushes against the plug.

(**) min lenght of thread needet to fully bind with the hex nut (M6) 9mm would work for lite clamping forces too i guess.
