use for balancing the blades on a lawn mower. balancing the blades on your mower is very important not just for the health of your mower but for safety. after sharpening the blades you can have an off balance between the two ends. most prodominent on mulching blades. an off balance can cause vibrations that can cause excessive wear on quill assemblies on ride on mowers which can cause a dangerous and possible explosive failure of the blade retention devices and or bearings. on push mowers where the blade is directly attatched to the crank shaft it can cause the crank shaft to bend or failure of the blade retention bolt. in both cases failure is imminent. this is a major safety concern. easy to use set the blade after sharpening and after blade has cooled down on the top placed in the correct sized hole for your blade center then place on base the side that hangs lower is heavier therefor un balanced. i recommend taking material off the edge to retain as much material on the back and end of blade for safety always remove material from edge only. this info is comming from a master service technician with over 25 years experience. always balance blades after sharpening.
