I use this sensor to get notifications through HomeAssistant when my mailbox is opened. The Ecolink has a dry contact terminal block that I wired an external reed switch to. I had to mount my first one outside the mailbox as the metal significantly reduced the range, unfortunately the weather took it's tole on it. This time around I decided to seal it in a case.
The case lid is press fit in and there is a hole on the bottom of the case. I suggest a small amount of silicone adhesive to seal the wire that comes out the bottom. I use 3M VHB to mount this to the bottom of my mailbox.
