I was having issues with the bottom axle wanting to wobble and causing the gears to come loose. I created this part to fit in place of the original spool winder that should add some stability near the middle of the rod.
You shouldn't need a lot of infill, I only used 10%. If the center is too tight, you can always drill or put a Dremel sander inside the hole until the axle rotates smoothly in it.
