The Expanding Sewing Gauge gives you fast and accurate measuring. It's quick and easy to use for buttons, buttonholes, hooks, eyes, snaps, shirring, smocking, skirt and dress pleats, drapes, tucks, gathers, bias or straight cut strips.
Lay it over your garment (or craft) and expand it to the desired length for perfectly measured, equal distances and accurate spacing. You may need to check with a ruler for absolute accuracy and adjust if necessary.
Print in PLA if you prefer stiffness or PETG for a more flexible version.
Recommended print settings:
- 0.4 mm nozzle: 0.2 mm layer height, 3 perimeters, 20% infill
Part count requirements are based on the desired gauge “length”:
- 2 section: 2 base, 1 connector_top, 1 connector_bottom, 5 rod_top, 3 spacer, 1 standalone_rod
- 3 section: 3 base, 2 connector_top, 2 connector_bottom, 8 rod_top, 3 spacer, 1 standalone_rod
- 4 section: 4 base, 3 connector_top, 3 connector_bottom, 11 rod_top, 3 spacer, 1 standalone_rod
- Each additional section requires: 1 base, 1 connector_top, 1 connector_bottom, 3 rod_top
Color codes in the assembly picture:
- gray: base
- blue: connector_bottom
- green: connector_top
- white: spacer
- yellow: rod_top
- red: standalone_rod
Use super glue to attach the rod_tops to fix the parts in place. Make sure not to use too much glue so the parts can still freely move.
4-section version size for reference:
- 14.5 cm (length) x 4 cm (width) in closed position
- distance between each marker when fully opened: 9 cm
