This is a fully 3D-Printable set for the easy to learn but hard to master game “Martian Chess” (rules can be found on this Wikipedia page or on YouTube).
The fact that all the pieces can be securely stored away in the robust board as well as the games compact size make it ideal for taking it with when traveling or just carrying in a backpack etc.
I designed it in a way that makes it possible to print it with both multi-material printers and such that are only capable of printing a single material at once.
For single material printing:
You only need to download a single one of the “tile.stl” -Files. I suggest scaling it down to 98,5-99% or whatever your printers tolerance requires. That's because they are designed without any gap so they are printable with a multi material system. Print this feel in two colors, sixteen times each and glue them on the board in a chessboard pattern (surprise, surprise)
For multi material printing:
Download all thrity-two of the tile-pieces, so they snap in the correct locations when importing the files into your slicer of choice. Now select two different colors in a chessboard pattern.
The board is available in two different styles: 2 Player and 2 or 4 Player. The pictures show the 2 or 4 Player board, featuring dovetail connections to be combined with a second Board. If you don't need this option and prefer the cleaner look without the connectors you should print the 2 Player board.
The pieces are designed to fit into each other and in turn fit inside the board. The holes on each side are there for both easier handling of the pieces as well as showing how many points each piece is worth
The lids snap into place when closed to prevent the stored pieces from falling out. The lids are designed with 0.2mm clearance on either side, if your printer requires higher clearances just scale them down a bit in the X or Y direction, depending on their orientation on the printbed to make them a bit shorter.
IMPORTANT!: After you take the lids off the printer, put them inside their slots in the Board gently. In case there is a lot of resistance before they click into place, take a file or some sandpaper and reduce the height of the "clicking - mechanism" on the lid until they can be pushed into place with a reasonable amount of force. Otherwise they will be a pain to get back out once you pushed them all the way down.
Now after all of that I hope you have a lot of fun with the game. I'm happy about every make and comment you leave.
If you have a suggestion for an improvement i could add to the game, feel free to tell me about it, i'd be happy to add it.
