Introduction
I had some cheap mass produced, universal hooks for towels on my drier, but it was clumsy, so f**k it, I just printed my own custom design, which fits perfectly and is pleasingly snappy. I 3D printed it in white PETG. It is minimalistic, but strong and nice looking. PETG filament is flexible and resist to heat, so no problem if towel drier gets hot to 70C.
Now I can save few seconds every time I need to put the towel back on the drier.
So many different variations
Double pipe mode
There are so many possible different sizes and configurations of towel driers, but essentially there are just a few important parameters for these hooks:
- Diameter of pipes (e.g. 18.5 or 28 mm)
- Distance from top of the pipe to the bottom of another lower pipe (50.5 mm or 96 mm)
- Width of the hook (e.g. 20 mm)
- Length of the hook (e.g. 35 mm)
I'm attaching a couple of designs for now:
- 18.5 x 50.5 x 20 x 35 mm
- 20.5 x 60 x 20 x 35 mm
- 28 x 96 x 20 x 35 mm
- to be added more
Please post your comments with your custom measurements and I'll upload more needed variations. I just don't know what are other possible popular measurements to create, so please help me, even if you are not going to print it.
Single pipe mode
If the distance between pipes are huge, you can use a single pipe model, which has the following parameters:
- pipe diameter (e.g. 28 mm)
- distance to the wall (e.g. 59 mm)
- hook length (e.g. 35 mm)
- wall thickness (e.g. 4 mm)
Fusion 360 models
I'm attaching *.f3d files, so you can import those files to Fusion 360 and modify it's parameters to customise the model for your specific needs.
Recommendations for printing
Use PETG
Printing in PETG is a must, because it's more resistant to heat. PLA could be too soft when heater is working on it's full power.
PETG is perfect, because it's cheap, dishwasher washable, flexible, resistant to heat, strong, snappy.
Printing settings
I printed it in 0.2 layers and 6 perimeters. Top and bottom layers are not so important - I just used 3.
Sequential Printing
To avoid stringiness from PETG, I've printed them in sequence. One after another. There's this feature in PrusaSlicer, which is called “Sequential Printing” or “Complete Individual Objects”
