Why this model
We have a Chinese cleaver (切肉刀) but it is much too large to fit into our knife block with the rest of the knives. So we put the cleaver in a drawer.
This model solves two problems for our family:
- Keeps family from accidentally getting cut if they are moving stuff around in the drawer and don't notice the sharp cleaver hiding underneath something else (we have deep drawers).
- Keeps the cleaver from getting dulled banging into other metal utensils in the drawer.
I can't guarantee this will work for your cleaver because all cleavers are a bit different size, but for comparison the blade on our cleaver is about 3 1/16" (~78mm) high and 6 9/16" (~167mm) wide. The model's opening is just a few mms in each direction larger.
If your blade is the size above or slightly smaller, this should work. If not, you might be able to scale it up or down a little.
We are considering using Velcro or some 3M Large Adhesive Tapes to mount this vertically against a cabinet next to our regular knife block. Haven't done that yet, but made some shallow recesses in the back to make aligning Velcro easier if we go that route.
Also added a few holes in the back to (optionally) add 15x2mm magnets. You can stack up to two per hole. Those small magnets certainly aren't strong enough to keep the whole knife from falling out if turned upside down! But together with a snug interference fit, can help add a little additional attachment force.
Printing Notes
I did 3 walls/perimeters but a low infill (10% I think). It seems plenty strong so far. If you print in the provided orientation, no supports are needed. But consider a thick (5mm+) brim just to ensure that this fairly tall and skinny model doesn't break free from the build plate.
Requests?
For our purposes, I added the word Cleaver and the (simplified) Mandarin equivalent ( 切肉刀 ) but if anyone is interested in a version without the English and/or Chinese lettering, let me know and I can upload those versions as well.
