My own take on a 5 Gallon (19 Liter) bucket Cyclone Dust Collector - designed to accept 51mm O.D. central vacuum piping.

Not content with the designs already out there, I designed my own cyclone dust collector to achieve the following:

  • print quick and cheap (<400g of filament!)
  • use minimal supports (see ‘Support Deck’ section below)
  • integrate a vacuum relief valve (see ‘Vacuum Relief Valve’ section below)
  • Accept the 51mm O.D. pipes that my central vacuum uses

Support Deck

In order to reduce the amount of supports that needed printing, I incorporated a sacrificial ‘Support Deck’ within the intake port. This is removed post-print along with the supports that are on it. There's a similar support deck in the vacuum relief elbow.

Vacuum Relief Valve

I integrated the Vacuum Relief Valve into a 90 degree elbow that mates to the output port. You'll need the following hardware to complete the valve:

  • M3x30 bolt
  • M3 nylon lock nut
  • Two M3 washers
  • The spring from a BIC® Clic Stic® Pen

Here's a video of the relief valve in action!

Connecting The Parts

I first used a lot of superglue to connect the ‘top’ and ‘cone’ pieces together - then I went over the seam with a 3D pen to complete the seal. I then repeated the process when attaching the whole assembly to a pre-cut hole in the 5 gallon bucket lid.
