If you have cordless blinds that are mounted high above the ground, this model is for you! It's a device for lifting cordless blinds so that you can open the blinds all the way even if you can't reach the top.
My apartment has cordless blinds, which you open/close by moving the bottom of the blind up or down with your hand. The blinds are mounted 8'8" off the ground, so I can't open them all the way without a footstool. I invented this thingamajig to make it easier to fully open and close the blinds.
This design is for blinds with a steel bottom bar that is about 20 mm wide, but could be adapted for other blinds. The FreeCAD source file is included.
See this video for a description of how to use it.
In addition to this 3D printed part, you'll need these parts:
- A 5/8" dowel that is at least 3' long. I used a 4' dowel from Home Depot.
- 2x disc-shaped magnets that are 4.8 mm thick and 29.5 mm in diameter. Ideally they should have countersunk screw holes for installation, but if not you can use glue (I didn't try this). I used this product: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B07CZGWY93 . Note that the product on Amazon claims to be 32 mm x 5 mm, but it's actually 29.mm x 4.8 mm.
- 2x 10 mm (including the head) countersunk M3 screws + 2 M3 nuts to hold the magnets. This is what I designed the part to use, but I actually ended up using two random screws I had lying around. You can also use CA glue (super glue) but I didn't try this.
- A 25 mm button head M5 screw + M5 nut to hold the plastic part to the dowel. I found that the part friction fit without needing a screw. You can also use CA glue.
- A short length of string to tie a loop around each blind so that you can pull them down after pushing them all the way up. I used this 1.8 mm cord: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0913978WZ
To print, turn on supports “For support enforcers only”. The .3mf file includes painted-on supports. Turn up the vertical shells to 4 for extra strength.
