Off all the common polyhedral dice, d4's roll the worst.
Inspired by how some types of d6 dice are essentially spheres with flat sides cut into them, I've tried to design some variations of the tetrahedron shape to improve rollability.
There are four variants:
Regular Reuleaux Tetrahedron
This is just a reuleaux tetrahedron, a solid of constant width.
Truncated Reuleaux Tetrahedron
A reuleaux tetrahedron truncated by a regular tetrahedron.
Flattened Sphere
A sphere truncated by a regular tetrahedron.
Reuleaux Sphere
A sphere truncated by a reuleaux tetrahedron.
None of the variantions have numbers. The official explanation is that there are too many combinations of number positions and fonts to bother.
The real explanation is that I'm lazy and never got around to it.
I never got further with this project than printing and testing them. They all roll well, but the tetrahedron and truncated tetrahedron tend to be a bit “jumpy”.
Do with them what you will. Enjoy!
