A set of modular light box cover plates that you can use for any unused electrical receptacles.

When I put potlights in my ceiling I had some old electrical boxes left. Unfortunately I could not find a cover big enough and in the style I like.

This model is a modular design focused set of prints to handle a wide array of different receptacle box shapes. I plan to add a few different decorative plates and would love community input!

Current Components

So far there are 3 separate components.

  • Anchor Plate: This is the main plate that you will always need.  It has holes matched to standard light electrical boxes with appropriate screw sizing.  This is how you anchor the decorative (outer) plate to the ceiling or wall.
  • Rounded Square Bevel: This is the first decorative plate I made.  It has a slow bevel to the surface with rounded sides.
  • Classical Round Bevel: This extra decorative plate is round and has a nice set of multi-level tapers that fit a more classical style.

Assembly

To assemble the items first place your anchor plate in the middle of the decorative plate making use you have the buttons inward.  You should have a nice flush surface between both components.  Then simply use your screws to connect to the electrical box.

Printing settings

This is a pretty simple print.  I use PLA with a 20% infill, but since these are pretty thin shells and do not really need any structural strength, feel free to play around with it.

Note that there is a need for supports on the buttons and the size for the bevel on the decorative plates.

Other Notes

When I printed mine I noticed the surface was not the most brilliant after scraping the print off the build plate.  I ended up using Rust-Oleum plastic paint to clean things up.  Other than it being a bit tackey it worked great! https://www.amazon.ca/Rust-Oleum-249090-Painters-Purpose-12-Ounce/dp/B002BWOS08/ref=sr_1_6?hvadid=683394510375&hvdev=c&hvlocphy=9000855&hvnetw=g&hvqmt=e&hvrand=170987222406366327&hvtargid=kwd-314888044306&hydadcr=13570_13447228&keywords=rustoleum%2Bspray%2Bpaint%2Bfor%2Bplastic&qid=1703627055&sr=8-6&th=1
