Plumb Bob for measuring vertical. I needed one for installing my built-in bookcase and didn't want to go out and buy one. This one is hollow, so you can add weight to it, to make sure it has enough mass to hang straight. It could be filled with sand, lead shot or just about anything. I filled mine with BB's. It has a filler cap, and a separate cap for installing the string. Simply remove the cap, insert the string from the top, and tie a knot in it. Then screw the cap back in place. This will ensure it is centered. Pretty simple to use. It prints without supports and can be printed in whatever material you want (i.e. PLA, PETG, ABS, etc.…) I printed one out of yellow PLA and another out of PTG.
Note: Since the filler screw is so small, I used the “Filler Plug Screw” to clean out the threads. Just made it easier to get started.
02/08/2024: Added a thinner version for when you are working up close to a wall. It uses the same cap, so they are interchangeable on your plumb-bob line. I also added a simple right angle bracket for hanging on the wall or stud. The bracket has two holes for the plumb-bob line. One at 1" and a second at 2" That way you always know where you are starting from. There are also two screw holes, but I only ever use 1.
