Magnetic screwdrivers are not only ergonomical, sometimes they are an absolute necessity for getting those screws in. Use this device to magnetize your tools.

Magnets

I used 30x10x3mm Magnets but it could be possible to insert 3x 10x3mm round magnets instead of one magnet bar. If you need a model for magnets in another size, let me know in the comments and I will make one.

Slicing

Insert a pause right before the holes for the magnets are closed. Optionally, use a color change for a nice effect.

Printing

When the print pauses, insert the magnets in a way that they repel each other. They are pulled in by the spring steel sheet. For non-magnetic sheets, there is a small lip that should keep the magnets in while they are repelling each other pressing themselves against the lip.

Please note: if your printhead contains a lot of iron or steel (like a hardened steel nozzle), the magnets may jump out, so please take extra care!

This shows the orientation of the magnets and the magnetic force they feel.

How it actually works

Here is a short video on how these devices work.
