Since I liked the original model but I did not like the idea of printing it vertically, I've decided to split it into two parts which intersect down the middle. Now it prints flat on the bed quickly and easily, with no supports. I recommend the minimal layer height your printer allows, as these wings are fairly thin, but other than that print how you like. 0.4mm nozzle works fine.
I had some printing issues which caused the flights to have empty spots in places (not sure if under-extrusion, bad leveling or just that my old bed isn't perfectly flat anymore), but it still worked pretty well. The flappy bits at the top can be a bit annoying and I planned to fix them in place with glue, but honestly they seem to work fine even when loose.
