This is a handle for the 3/8 inch unhandled burnisher rod from Taylor Toolworks (Direct, Amazon). A burnisher is used to sharpen card scrapers, a woodworking tool that is also an excellent alternative to sandpaper for shaping and smoothing 3D prints.

The handle is 3 inches long for a total tool length of 6 inches once assembled. Remove the rubber cap that comes on the rod before inserting it in the handle.

The OpenSCAD source file is included to change the size of the handle or adapt it for different rods/other tools. The uploaded model is a good press fit with my burnisher and printer, but you may need to adjust to get a good fit.

The 3mf file has recommended print settings for PLA/PETG:

  • Print in the default orientation (longest dimension in the Z axis)
  • Enable adaptive variable layer height for a smoother top
  • Enable fuzzy skin with thickness 0.1mm and point distance 0.5mm
  • Set seam position to ‘nearest’ or ‘random’

Printed in Atomic PETG on a MK3S+. I added the bottom chamfer after printing the version in the picture.
