I needed to mount my sconce to the wall, and I had no junction box to do it with.

This is a sconce surface mount. Letting you mount your sconce on a surface. I got some sconces from lowes (The “allen + roth Vallymede 5-in 1-Light Antique Bronze Farmhouse Vanity Light”) and I wanted them on my wall with a lamp cord to where I have an outlet. But they want to mount to a junction box and I don't have a junction box! So I made this to let me hang the sconce safely without much fuss.

I've included the openSCAD file because my sconce probably will have different dimensions than your sconce. This is fine and no cause to panic. I went looking for a project like this so I could steal some ideas… I mean remix them… but I couldn't find anything.

So after a bunch of iterations I'm presenting you the Sconce Surface Mount MK4!

You can read and see photos of my build story on my mastodon.

Printing

The 3mf file has my recommended settings. Which are that I printed without supports and 100% infill after the bottom (15% below) for a little extra strength. I did have to clean out the screw towers with some pliers but they didn't need to be pretty just functional.

Modifying

The SCAD file uses BOSL2 which I highly recommend as it made the whole thing a lot easier to design. (chamfer=-1 was a godsend) I can't advise you too much, I did my best not to use magic numbers for the important stuff. And the screw towers wont easily get weird when you start adjusting values. You'll want to modify height_of_screw and screw_hole_separation and well… most of the values to make it match what you need. Honestly throw it all out and steal what you need.
