The Last Stand is my answer to a minimalist spool holder. I'm solving various criteria with this one:

  • No supports
  • Minimal part count
  • Print directly from your drybox by adding a PTFE tube
  • Low friction rolling (using 608 bearings, printed or purchased)
  • Fits within a cereal container (If the spool fits, this holder will generally fit too)
  • I'd be glad to create additional crossmembers if you have a custom spool width! Just send me the internal width of the spool.

The bearing posts are intended to be very slightly oversized, allowing this print to work with anyone's printer even if its not perfectly calibrated for size. I use a small file to sand the posts down to a snug fit into the bearings.

I've printed several of these now, and they work great!
Can also add some sort of double sided tape to keep them centered in the container (if you prefer).

Also print:

Settings:

  • Printed in PETG
  • 4mm outer brim
  • Base: 15% infill, gyroid, 3 perimeters
  • Crossmembers: 30% infill, gyroid, 3 perimeters

Verified fitment:

56mm: Standard 1 Kg spool, Polymaker (cardboard), 3D Printing Canada, Spectrum

43mm: Standard 0.5 Kg spool, Spectrum
