I almost never use that mount that comes with a lot of the flexible boom arm items from amazon. Magnifying lenses, microphone boom arms..etc. Plus I needed one that was a bit more sturdy. I designed two of these, one is a basic one that fits right on top of the desk and one for the side of the desk. The one on the side of the desk mount also has a small channel with zip tie attachments to tidy up the cable.
Size of the hole is 12.3 and for myself is snug but still has good resistance so it's not wobbly.
