Using a simple LED 8x8 matrix with 4 modules, easy and cheaply to buy from China and a Wemos D1 mini you can build a programmable display. The software includes a local Wifi network and a webpage generated by the Wemos D1 mini. Using the webpage interface the user can control the text displayed, the speed of the scrolling and the brightness of the matrix.
At maximum the matrix only uses less than 500mA, so a decent USB power bank will keep it working for many hours.
In order to mount the provided Gopro adapter, I used 2 M4x5mm heatinserts. But if you force a larger screw into the holes, it will cut its own thread.
