Rule Stop, now you don't have to pay a lot of money to have a rule stop. Here's my design to get you measuring in no time. This is a versatile, easy to print and use rule stop. It is adjustable and has a captured print-in-place clamp to help secure your rule or ruler (up to 3mm thick and a little over 25mm wide.) The rule stop can be used as a square, but check to make it is before using it for this purpose( mark a line and flip it over and mark another line from the same edge, if they are parallel, then it's square.) The threads are ¼"-20 Metric version coming soon.
Printing Tips:
- Print with screw hole pointed up.
Filament - PLA works well
Infill - 20% for is fine
Layer Height - ..25-.30mm
Supports - None
Parimeters - 2-3 are fine
Additional Parts - ¼" 20 thumbscrew
Bed Adhesion - Up to you but a little glue stick is a good insurance policy.
Rafts - None
Scaling - Only X and Y to enlarge the screw hole if you need to get thumbscrew to fit (see below in Post Printing Notes)
Filament Change - None necessary
Post Printing Notes:
You will want to use a ¼"-20 tap to clear the threads after printing. If you don't have a tap (these are very handy for 3D printing) then you may want to scale up the print in the x and y axis (not Z and make sure the screw hole is on top) to ~102% (your milage may vary on the upscaling) to get the clearance you need to screw in a ¼"-20 bolt or thumb screw.
Also, after you tap the screw hole, use a thin tool less that 3mm thick to dislodge the clamp jaws toward the screw hole and make sure it moves freely, so you can get your rule in the rule stop and clamp it in.
As the layer lines may engage the rule unevenly, keep the thumbscrew a bit loose and twist the rule slightly to make sure it seats in the clamp jaws securely.
Happy Printing!
