I raise aquarium fish as a hobby. At times I have a breeding pair of Angels or Discus that continually eat their eggs, or they are breeding in a community tank and other fish help themselves to the eggs. To stop this behavior I designed this Breeding Cone Guard to protect the eggs.

Note: I had some difficulty with the final assembly wanting to float. I had some leftover aluminum tubes (thanks Prusa), These slipped easily over the posts and provided the weight needed to keep it in place. Anything you can use as ballast will help solve this problem.

Material: ABS (any other material will likely work)

Rafts: no

Supports: no

Infill: 100% ( to make it heavy enough to sink)

Layer Height:  0.2mm

Tips:

Everything its extremely tight in order to hold the netting in place. This can make it difficult to assembly. For best results:

  1. Cut the netting slightly longer than the assembled height of the guard.
  2. Use one of the posts to knit the ends of the vertical seam together so it will stay wrapped around the inner ring.
  3.  install all of the posts before installing the clamp ring.
  4. Install the metal tubes, or other ballast onto the posts.
  5. Install the second ring and pull the netting tight.
  6. Once assembled, the netting can be trimmed close to the rings
