A dummy keyboard model with clickable keys and a super-fake microphone hole, for all of you ChatGPT experts out there!

Multi-colored model printable both on an MMU3, as well as on a plain Prusa with no MMU (using just 3 manual filament swaps).

For springs you can use a standard ballpoint pen spring cut in half. Of course, you will need 3 halves.

Required Colors

You will need the following PLA colors:

  • Black (for keys and casing body)
  • White (for letters on the keys and on the keyboard plate)
  • Grey (for the keyboard plate and the casing base)

I used eSUN ePLA Matte filament.

Printing

a) Printing with MMU3

Use ExpertKeyboard-MMU.3mf project file. Just plug & play.

b) Printing without MMU

  1. Use 3MF project files in the Manual folder.
  2. When printing MMM-Keys.3mf and MMM-Plate.3mf files, always start with the white filament inserted into the nozzle. The Casing.3mf requires only black filament.
  3. Each time a filament swap is required, the head will pull to the side and wait for you to press “Resume” button and keep an eye for the next step.
  4. Pay attention to the printer display, as it will show you what is the next filament you need to insert. For example: “Next filament is BLACK”. The hint goes away after 4 seconds, so pay attention!

Assembly

  1. Get two ballpoint pen springs, cut them in half and insert one half into the casing in each hole.
  2. Gently push the keys in their places, respectively from left to right:
    1. AI key
    2. Copy key
    3. Paste key

The buttons should move freely and spring back after released. If they remain stuck, pull them out, reduce flow by 3% and retry printing a new casing.

  3. Glue the keyboard plate to the keyboard casing using a few drops of superglue.
  4. Glue the casing to the keyboard base.
