Why an iPhone 6s, in 2025? A phone that's just about to turn 10 years old?

Simple: AirTags!

I'm a dedicated Android user, but there's no denying that AirTags (and other Find My compatible trackers) are the best low-cost trackers on the market. How could they not be, when there's over a billion active iPhones out there updating the status of any Find My device in range?

There's just one problem: Apple, understandably, hasn't made any way to use AirTags on non-Apple devices.

And I'm certainly not giving up my beloved Jelly Star. So, what can I do without spending an extraordinary amount of money on something I'll rarely use? Even used iPhones cost more than I'm willing to spend for this single purpose… or do they?

After doing a little research, it turns out that the oldest iPhone that supports AirTags and Find My item trackers is, you guessed it, the iPhone 6s – and, at least in the United States, there's tons of them still out there! The unit seen in my photos was purchased for a whopping $22 with free shipping on eBay!

Anyway, I wanted to keep my iPhone somewhere with quick and easy access for when I need it, but still out of the way for when I don't. Bonus points if I can keep it plugged in and turned on to prevent the AirTags from beeping whenever they're moved, which happens if they don't see your iPhone for over 24 hours.

I found @3DBrooklyn's iPhone 6s wall dock and realized it'd be perfect to mount to my Multiboard! I replaced the wall cleat mount with a couple Multipoint slots, and the result is the model I'm sharing with you now. Enjoy!

Notes / Print Settings

  • You'll need 2 Multipoints (any type is fine) to mount the holder to your Multiboard. You can pick and download them here: https://www.multiboard.io/parts-library/multipoint/multipoints
  • Print in the provided orientation, no supports. Your default settings are probably fine, but I enabled external perimeters first (for better dimensional accuracy) and 3 perimeters (for a little extra strength).
  • The little slot in the front of the holder is to hold the charge cable when you're not using it – it doesn't fit my USB C PD cable that I'm using (with a USB C to Lightning adapter), but it'll fit an original Apple Lightning cable perfectly if you have one.
  • The iPhone 6s doesn't have UWB for precision finding, but all other features work perfectly! (The iPhone 11 is the oldest model with UWB.)
  • You can get third-party Find My compatible item trackers (AirTag clones!) that work just as well as or better than first-party AirTags, for much cheaper! I have tried several different brands/models and have not run into any issues.
