Optimized Silica Gel Dryer Spool

This printable spool is designed to hold loose silica gel beads for drying inside a filament dryer like the SUNLU FilaDryer.

I got tired of drying beads in the oven – it’s messy and inconvenient.
So I created a reusable, clean solution that makes drying easy.

Just fill the spool with your silica beads, place it inside your dryer, and let the air circulation do the rest. You can also fit silica bags into the spool’s compartments. Once dry, either put the whole filled spool in your filament storage box – or transfer the contents back into your preferred silica gel container to keep your spools moisture-free.

The spool prints in two parts and joins together with a reliable friction fit. A notched rim keeps silica beads from escaping. The standard outer and inner diameters make it compatible with most filament dryers and spool holders.

This optimized version features thicker inner and outer walls for maximum stability — even at higher drying temperatures.
Depending on surface texture, fitting the two halves together may feel a bit tight.
When printing with a tall layer height, layer lines can interlock, which might make reopening the spool more difficult.
To avoid this, print with a finer layer height and/or lightly sand the mating surfaces.
