The Sovol SV06 Plus frame is not particularly strong. The front and rear plates visibly vibrate when during acceleration tests. This modification is intended to strengthen the frame by connecting the front and rear plates with an additional pair of 2040 extrusions.
You will need some stuff:
- 2040 extrusion, cut down to 447mm and tapped via M5 tap in both ends. It has been brought to my attention that you can buy these parts from Sovol directly. They will come cut to length and tapped.
- ~25mm M5 machine screws. I recommend socket head cap screws
- M3 t-nuts for the braces. I like the longer ones that can only slide in on the extrusion ends.
- 8mm M3 screws for the braces
- M4 screws to secure the braces to the front/rear plates
The printed braces only fit if you remove the stock feet. These braces connect the new 2040 extrusions to the existing extrusions and to the front/rear panels.
I removed the stock plastic front and rear covers. You might be able to get them to fit back on after this modification by removing some material. Removal of the front cover requires the addition of a spacer of some kind to the tensioner knob. Print something, buy an M4 spacer, or stack some M4 washers.
There is a version of the brace that has a wire channel. I have a display mounted to the front of the printer. This wire channel version of the brace is probably only useful to me, but I include it here anyway.
The drill guides are designed to allow you to screw them to the front and rear panels with the stock screws. Once the guides are attached, use a punch to mark the locations of the holes. Then remove the drill guides and drill the holes. I used a drill press.
When combined with my dual y-motor/9mm GT2 belt modification for the SV06 Plus, the recommended acceleration value from resonance testing in Klipper jumped from:
- 3500 mm/s^2 zv 30.8 Hz
up to:
- 8800 mm/s^2 mzv 54.6 Hz
A similar modification for the original SV06 is available here.
