Here are parts capable of mounting a common 66mm diameter spray can (i.e. wasp poison or spray paint) on a 20mm to 30mm pole, with a thin rope or string to actuate the spray.
NOTE: Most wasp spray is not designed to spray with the can horizontal. So it will not spray for nearly as long as it would in normal use. But it did spray long enough to kill a fair sized nest if you can reach it, so I'm posting this in case it helps someone else.
WARNING: Some wasp poisons shoot a narrow dense shot of poison more than 6 meters. When spraying upward in front of you, make sure not to raise the pole such that you spray yourself. And always use protective eyewear and a mask when spraying poisons… Be sure to wear appropriate clothes to protect from whatever insects you are dealing with.
See photos for help on how to put it together. Print in a strong non-brittle filament such as ABS or Nylon, using a good structural part profile such as the Voron Parts Specification. Then:
- Keep the cap on the poison until you are done putting this together. Use a 35mm (or so) M3 screw to loosely hold the big ring on the can.
- Get the 4 pole mount parts hooked in, as shown in the photo, and use M3 screws to loosely mount them around a pole.
- Slide everything where you want it, and gently tighten until it is firmly in place. (Steel screws can easily rip plastic apart, so don't over-tighten.)
- Fit the actuator arm (the part that will press the button) to the actuator extension (with all the holes for adjustable length with an M3 screw. Keep this very loose, as it needs to move freely as a hinge joint.
- Slide the actuator extension into the rectangular fitting on the can ring. Adjust length so the button pushing part is aimed straight at the button for releasing the poison. Put a screw below (and maybe also above, if it's loose) it's mount, to keep it from sliding too far.
- Examine the parts after mounting to ensure the steel screws haven't stressed the plastic to failure. Examine for any other issue that may impact your implementation. If you use an affiliate link to get to Amazon the next time you need to buy something, the designer associated with that link will get a small percentage of any sale made during that browsing session. Frankly, it tends to be more symbolic than anything, but it lets designers know that you connected with their designs, and it feels good.
