This is a sharpening jig for the Shopsmith lathe chisel set. The intent of this is to replicate the functionality of the sharpening jig that has been discontinued. The sharpening guide allows you to sharpen the Shopsmith lathe chisel set that came with many Shopsmiths. This tries to strike a balance between functionality, print time and filament usage. A few features of the original are not supported such as the adjustable angles and sharpening shaper cutters.

There are a number of videos on Youtube that describe the operation of the original jig such as this video. This version is used in a similar manner.

Hardware Required

2 x 1/4-20 1" bolts
1 x 1/4-20 1.5" Machine Screw (a bolt can be used as well but is a little trickier to assemble)
2 x 1/4-20 knobs
1 x 1/4-20 Nylock Nut
4 x 1/4-20 Washers

Printing Notes
I strongly recommend that you print this in at least PETG.
The rail that goes in the miter slot might be tight on the first few insertions into the slot. I have two tables and a newly printed bar fits perfectly on one and a little tight on the other until it has been slid in the slot a few times.

Assembly Notes
Use washers anyplace you tighten a bolt to the plastic to minimize wear
The bolt for the scraper clamp needs to use a nylock nut. The nylock should be tightened just enough to allow some play in the assembly.

Status
This is a version 1.0 or beta. It currently doesn't support sharpening the shaper cutters. I sized this to print on smaller 180mm x 180mm printer beds and this has made this somewhat less usable than the original it is inspired by. I will likely make this larger in a future version or split it into two separate jigs.

Warning: Sharpening tools requires caution and patience. You must be careful as you have spinning abrasive, sharp tools and hot metal.
