You'll need:

  • Velcro straps (https://www.amazon.com/dp/B09QSY9B7J?ref=ppx_yo2ov_dt_b_fed_asin_title&th=1)
  • ExcelMark (or similarly wide) name-badge magnets (https://www.amazon.com/dp/B01F24SE1K/ref=dp_iou_view_item?ie=UTF8&th=1)
  • Superglue
  • ZSA voyager (https://www.zsa.io/voyager, pictured) or keyboard of your choice

Superglue the magnets to two buckles for sufficient strength. Pass the buckles through the velcro. Now place your keyboard on your lap. Find a spacing that feels comfortable. Then, if your keyboard isn't magnetic, peel the adhesive on the “badge” side of the magnet, and stick it to your keyboard. All set!

Print with the hole facing up. One side is flat and the other has a small fillet, go with the flat side for best adhesion. I recommend a brim.

This is a small part, but it doesn't require a particularly small nozzle. I used a 0.6 diameter nozzle

Setup discussion:

What about a mouse? I use a ball mouse next to hip, like it's in a holster. Since I mostly code in vim and the command line day-to-day, I don't actually need my mouse all that much, so I have not thought through the placement.

I used this on the ZSA voyager (pictured). I'll start with the keyboard relatively flat, and slowly add angle by placing the magnetic shuttles outward around my knees - keyboard purists call this “tenting”.

I also used the badge-side of the magnets on one of my non-magnetic, non-split heavier keyboards. The benefit here is that I can relax my legs and have my keyboard on my lap without worrying about it sliding. Since the magnetic parts are in the same location every time, I get a super consistent experience. I hope the keyboard being in the same position relative to my arms will improve my typing accuracy
