Hardware required:

  1. M5 Screw (I used an M5x20 button head)
    • 15mm length minimum. The longer the screw the easier the tool is to use.
  2. M5 Hex Nut

Installation Directions:

  1. Measure the thread diameter of your available M5 screw.
    • Sounds silly but we don't want it to turn too easily or the rotor will move it upon contact.
  2. Determine which tool variant best suits your brake setup and hardware
    • 3MF file Options:
      • 4.8mm "undersized" and 5mm nominal hole sizes
      • 22mm deep and 11mm deep
  3. Print the tool and file the M5 hole if the screw does not gently pass through.
    • If the screw has too little resistance, add some Teflon pipe tape to the threads
  4. Press the M5 nut into the printed tool. Glue if your hardware is too loose.
  5. Fully screw in the M5 fastener by hand
  6. Hand thread install the assembly to the brake posts
  7. Slide the assembly so that the M5 screw is in the desired location
  8. Tighten the assembly till snug to the brake posts

The button head screw can be used to check the alignment on both rotor surfaces. The dome can be used to check the “front” side and the underside of the fastener head can be used to check the “rear” surface. Please watch a tutorial such as this one if you are unfamiliar with how to true a brake rotor on a bicycle.

Why was this made?
Great question! I received a new HS2 rotor that was warped and I could only get it so straight by staring through the brake caliper. Could I have just bought the proper equipment or exchanged the rotor, yes. But I wanted to get back on the trails ASAP without the annoying pad rub so here we are!
